A RICH LABRYNTH OF LIMERICK HISTORY

The People’s Museum of Limerick is a new project from Limerick Civic Trust, at No. 2 Pery Square, Limerick. Limerick Civic Trust have a long relationship with this building, having first carried out its restoration from 1996 to 1999. The building was opened as ‘The Georgian House and Garden’ by President Mary McAleese in 1999. In 2014, it was purchased by Limerick Council and became ‘Culture House’ during Limerick’s tenure as City of Culture in 2014. Now the building has returned to the care and management of Limerick Civic Trust, and we have ambitious plans for a brand new way to bring it to life!

Tour The Museum

To tour the Museum is to enjoy a fascinating exploration in the company of knowledgeable, extremely warm and friendly Tour Guides, who will bring stories, as well as the house – to life. The house features a rich array of collections – from children’s dolls to military history, and including the most famous of all Irish laces, Limerick lace. Engaging and enthusiastic, the People’s Museum is a wonderful time capsule, giving you the opportunity to travel through Limerick’s heritage – uniting the multi-layered past with the vibrant present.

“I enjoyed an excellent fascinating walking tour of the Georgian Quarter of Limerick with the very knowledgeable Cathal. Wonderful architecture and a fascinating museum in an absolutely beautifully restored building, containing the Frank McCourt collection. Well worth a visit.”
